The 13 major scams to avoid with online marketing

If you spend any amount of time doing Internet Marketing, I don’t have to tell you that you have a hard time fighting off the torrent of “you can make money” offers that you get hit with every day, 24/7.

I have never found such a bounce of “Good Samaritans” any where else on earth – not even in religious circles.

But, the gambit runs from the innocent online hopefuls – spinning someone else’s dreams – to the down right scoundrels who would pick your pocket with a kiss. The words “Buyer Beware” must have been written especially for our Internet World of today.

So, how can you prevent becoming a victim of Internet crimes and scams?

It’s not easy, but below you will find 13 ways you could lose your hard-earned money, if not get “scammed” outright.

(1)    LOTTERY SCAMS:        Contact My Secretary

For quite a few years these scams were taking over the Internet by storm.  I think most people are now aware of the low life sorts that send you notifications in your email or by regular mail that you have won millions of dollars and just have to send them a fee to collect it.  Don’t.  There is no end to it.  I personally know some one how paid $130,000 in fees and never collected a dime.  He was addicted and it drove him insane.

(2)    INSURANCE SCAMS:      Auto Warranties

Auto Warranty companies have one of the worse records for not delivering as promised. Make sure they pass the fact-test with your Better Business Bureau or better yet consumer hot lines.

(3)    MORTGAGE SCAMS:        Mortgage Adjusters

When some one ask you for a fee to consult on you behalf to get your mortgage lowered by your bank or martgage holder for a up-front fee, don’t waste your time or money.

(4)    BANK CARD SCAMS:      Bank information Requests

When someone asks you for your social social number or bank information in an email or over the phone and who you did not contact them first – hang up, or block and delete.

(5)    CREDIT SCAMS:        Fixing Credit Scores

These companies have been around for generations. If you want to improve you credit scores, pay your bills or talk to your creditors. You can get a free credit report from the 3 major credit companies once a year, if you suspect that there may be a case of identity theft or have wrong information listed on your accounts.

(6)    GOVT GRANT SCAMS:    Finding Free Uncle Sam Money

They tell you there are billions of free Government Money laying around unclaimed and they can help you get your greedy little hands on some.  Why doesn’t the social service offices in your city know about this.  If you have to hire a grant consulting service for any reason, make sure you have them properly checked out first.

(7)    EMPLOYMENT SCAMS:    Finding You A Job For A Fee

Times are tough and many people are out of work.  This is the economic climate where job  scams flourish, charging clients fees to find them work. Every legitimate employment service finds you work for free and get paid from the employer.

(8)    WORK-AT-HOME SCAMS:     Paid Surveys AND Comments

When someone tells you, you can make a good living doing surveys and want you to pay them a processing or registration fee to get started, look the other way.

(9)    WORK-AT-HOME SCAMS:    Medical Billings

When you see an offer for jobs that pay you to process medical claims, it’s just another too good to be true offer from anonymous sources who just want to rob you blind.

(10)    WORK-AT-HOME SCAMS:    Cottage Industries

Companies who offer you a package of material for some arts and crafts projects and promise to buy the finished products at a profit.  It won’t happen.

(11)    WORK-AT-WORK SCAM:    Gifting Companies

Gifting is one of those insidious schemes that sounds like it should make you a better person in the long run. It might be so if the basis was not that you expect to get rich in the process.  So when you give and give and nothing comes back, don’t blame providence – it’s your greed letting you down.

(12)    EMAIL SCAMS:        Reading E-Mails For Cash

Reading hundred of email messages for a few cents each, sounds like a waste of time to me.  And time is money. So, if that’s all your time is worth, then I’d say go for it.  But also remember there are some aggressive companies out there that offer you outrageous sums to join their outfit.  If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

(13)    MLM SCAMS        Multi-Level Marketing

Although there are a lot of legitimate companies with real products on the Internet offering you a quick way to get rich, it’s not as easy as you might think.  You generally pay a membership or franchise fee that can be less than a hundred a month or several thousands to get qualified.

Then you get to sell “the the opportunity” to others and get a commission that may run several levels deep on referrals.

So, what’s wrong with this picture?

Give me a hundred people and I will show you 7 who can sell water in Death Valley on a hot Summer’s day. Besides, the marketing model is not sustaining, even if most of these people had the least bit of business sense, time and money to stick it out for the long haul.

Are There Legitimate Ways To Make Money Online?

YES!  There certainly are.

(A)    AFFILIATE MARKETING SITES

Affiliate Marketing Sites offer one of the easiest ways to get started with Online Marketing. You don’t have to build a website or blog – you just have to drive traffic to your affiliate links and collect a commission on sales.  Sites like Commission Junction, ClickBank and PayDot.com offer tons of top sellling digital products that you can promote.

You can start with with free traffic, but sooner or later, you will have to shell out some real money for paid advertising if you really want to make a pay check each month.

(B)    YOUR OWN BLOG SITES

Blogging is another great way to get started with Internet Marketing. Blogging platforms like WordPress and eBlogger by Google make it east for you to get up and running in no time.  If you have a passion, interest or pet peeve, you can create niche content that will attract the search engines to your blog properties in a short time.  These will be actual visitors who enjoy reading your posts.

Once you start getting targeted visitors to your site, you will be able to monetize it with affiliate links or Adsense ads that will pay you cash revenues if the traffic is good.

(C)    YOUR OWN WEBSITES

Getting a Domain Name and building your own websites is more challenging, but the rewards can be tremendous once you get it firmly established. With your own website properties, you can do just about anything you want.  You can build your own opt-in lists; publish minisites; create membership sites; sell traffic; sell your own products or other people’s products.

Create affiliate programs to get others to sell your products or traffic

Build your own opt-in mailing lists to market to for years to come.
